Reading Reversals
Should you read with reversals? Reversals are when the cards are upside down. My only rule for reading reversals is to wait until you have a strong understanding of the cards in their upright positions before you use reversals.
REASONS AND WAYS TO READ REVERSALS
There is not enough shadow energy in the deck. If a deck is too light and fluffy, using reversals to show a block of the upright energy may be helpful to balance out your readings.
The deck has less than 45 cards. If you'd like to have a larger database of interpretations, reversing the cards of a small deck makes sense. You can use the reversals as a reversal of the upright meaning.
There are strong visual cues. Sometimes when a deck is highly visual, you can still tell a story when the cards are upside down.
The question involves two options. You can assign upright cards to one option and reversals to another option. For instance, let's say you want to figure out the pros and cons of taking a job. The upright cards represent the pros and the reversals represent the cons.
